Vicki Szamborski was born in Detroit (Motown, baby!) when Detroit was alive and well. She is hoping to see it that way again some day. Her parents, Irene and Raymond Szyczewski, provided for her the ideal childhood that every child should have. Her mother taught her compassion and tolerance and how to make things with her hands. Her father instilled strength of character, and strong will (stubborness!), and a desire to make the perfect photograph. Both of her parents loved the wonders of nature and the family spent many Michigan summers camping in the great outdoors. This background is evident in her work, whether it’s a quilt, a photograph or a piece of silver jewelry.
